MV Agusta is set to retire the MV Agusta F4 superbike, but not before one last farewell. A final homage to the venerable machine, and a nod to the man who helped create it, the MV Agusta F4 Claudio is the supreme example of the Varesini company’s focus on performance and art. As such, only 100 examples will be produced.
The special edition model is based off the MV Agusta F4 RC platform, which means a 212hp inline-four engine when the dual-tipped race exhaust from SC-Project is installed. Peak torque hits 85 lbs•ft at 9,300 rpm, with a redline that reaches to 14,200 rpm. The bike still manages 205hp in street-legal trim.
Specifically designed for the Claudio version of the F4, MV Agusta’s Reparto Corse division created new head intake/exhaust ports for the four-cylinder engine, which have been revamped to improve fluid dynamics. DLC-treated cam followers have also been added to reduce friction and to provide more power.
Attention was given to other moving pieces as well, with an eye on reducing power loses from friction, including the Asso compression rings on the piston.
The MV Agusta F4 Claudio drips in carbon fiber bodywork, and even has carbon fiber wheels from BST. The black carbon fiber is accented by a gold electroplated copper ribbon, which helps tie in the Öhlins suspension pieces fore (NIX 30 with TiN coating) and aft (TTX36). Braking is handled by dual 320mm “T-Drive” discs up front, using Brembo Stilema 4-piston monobloc radial calipers.
MV Agusta has also made use of titanium bolts and screws on the F4 Claudio, and the company has more than a few CNC’d aluminum pieces that reduce weight over the RC model, like the triple clamp and rearsets. The final touch is a cross-stitched rider seat, with an embroidered Claudio logo.
We expect the MV Agusta F4 model, in all its variations, to disappear for the 2020 model year, which makes the MV Agusta F4 Claudio the final installment on this historic part of this iconic Italian motorcycle brand.
